Doulas are like trail guides on a hike through sometimes confusing, treacherous, and intimidating country through which you may have never navigated. We know where to step, where to tread carefully, and how to make the hike enjoyable and empowering. Regardless of if you want to go all natural, be medicated, or go for a cesarean, we are here to support you in many different ways.
Emotional and physical support before, during, and immediately following birth.
Informational support by directing our clients to resources and links to help them make informed decisions.
Family/partner support before, during, and immediately following birth.
Self-advocacy support so our clients can confidently ask for what they want and need regarding their prenatal care and birth preferences.
Preservation of memory during labor/birth by keeping notes throughout, and taking a few pictures as desired.
Confidentiality. Everything discussed during prenatal appointments, in support calls or texts, and recorded in notes will be kept confidential, unless a client explicitly gives permission otherwise.
While Luna Mountain Doulas provides many different types of doula services,
it is important to know what doula do and do NOT do...
What a birth doula does NOT do...
Doulas are NOT midwives, healthcare providers or clinical task persons. We do not do cervical checks, fetal heart tone checks, blood pressure checks, vaginal exams, nor are we trained to medically handle emergent situations. We do not do newborn exams, or anything else related to medical care of you or your baby. A doula is NOT a substitute for a trained and skilled healthcare provider such as a midwife, OB/GYN, or pediatrician. A doula does NOT speak for you or make decisions for you while you are in labor or in the postpartum period. However, we can and DO encourage/prompt you and your partner to speak up for, advocate for and make decisions for yourself and your family in an informed and empowered way, and is a fantastic addition to your birthing and postpartum team of clinical and non-clinical experts.
